Loren Smith prepares and prosecutes patent applications in all areas of patent law for HULSEYIP, with particular experience in medical devices, semiconductors, telecommunications, business methods, signal processing and imaging, software algorithms, and propulsion systems.

Mr. Smith is a Texas certified mediator having completed the Qualifications to Serve as an Impartial Third Party according to Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. § 154.052. This permits Texas courts to appoint Mr. Smith to mediate disputes that are otherwise pending before the court system. Mr. Smith’s practice also includes litigation support, evaluating infringement risks, preparing validity and clearance opinions, and counseling clients on management and development of patent portfolios. Mr. Smith practices out of our Austin, Texas Office.

During his undergraduate studies, Loren was President of CompuSmith Computers, a computer consulting company, where he designed and assembled computers and oversaw staffing, purchasing, and distribution. Following undergrad, Loren worked as a Development Engineer Senior Analyst at Dell Computer Corporation specializing in communication devices such as: I/O devices, network interface cards, modems (DSL, cable, and analog), high encryption security/authentication devices, and biometric security devices. Loren then took a position with Platinum Hosting, a startup web development firm, and quickly rose through the ranks to become a Partner.

Throughout his five year tenure at Platinum Hosting, Loren oversaw server design, acquisition, and installation; new product development; customer development; and e-commerce design and implementation.
