IP PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Mr. McLauchlan is Of Counsel in the Austin, Texas office of HULSEYIP. Mr. McLauchlan specializes in preparing and prosecuting foreign and domestic patent applications in the following areas: nanoscience and nanotechnologies; software and computer technologies; wireless and telecommunications technologies and systems; aerospace and automotive technologies; lasers, photonics, optics, and imaging technologies; energy technologies and power systems; and semiconductor devices, integrated circuits and fabrication equipment technologies. Mr. McLauchlan has similar expertise in U.S. and international trademark registrations.
In addition to patent prosecution, Mr. McLauchlan is experienced in Intellectual Property litigation including patent, trademark, and copyright infringement, and trade secret misappropriation. Past efforts have included successfully managing patent litigation, identifying devices and methods that infringe the claims of one or more patents, negotiating license agreements to settle infringement disputes, and negotiating joint development agreements.
Mr. McLauchlan has also prepared several non-infringement and invalidity opinion reports, product clearance reports as well as patentability and trademark registrability reports based on search results. Rob assists clients in developing strategies for protecting Intellectual Property, patent and patent licensing portfolios, and methods for safeguarding trade secrets. Prior to entering law school, Mr. McLauchlan spent eight years as a nuclear engineer and submarine officer in the United States Navy, after which he worked for three years as an engineer in Motorola’s semiconductor division.
